Rivers in Bulgaria
In my country the rivers, which are very beautiful in their currents, are not very long and have small catchment basins. This categorizes our beautiful rivers as low-water. All rivers flowing through the northern part of Bulgaria have high water in the spring and summer, and those running through the southern and eastern parts have high water in the winter and early in the spring. In order to regulate the flow of the rivers in Bulgaria, over 2000 lakes have been created and maintained. In the current Bulgarian rivers are directed to the two water catchments: the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea. The list of all rivers flowing into the Black Sea basin is headed by the Iskar River. It is the oldest of all on the territory of the Balkan Peninsula and the longest in Bulgaria. It starts from the Rila Mountain, crosses another - Stara Planina, flows across the Danube Plain, forming the picturesque, varied and richly endowed by nature Iskar Gorge. The Iskar River flows its waters into the Danube river in the land of my native Pleven region. Other larger rivers flowing into the Danube River are Ogosta, Lom, Vit, Osam, and Yantra. Twelve larger rivers flow into the Black Sea - Batovska, Veleka, Devnia, Dvoinitsa, Dyavolska, Izvorska, Kamchia, Karaagach, Provadiyska, Rezovska, Ropotamo and Fakiiska. In the Aegean Sea flows the most deep Bulgarian river - Maritsa. She also leaves Rila Mountain. And other large rivers flowing into the basin of the Aegean Sea are Tundja, Arda, Mesta and Struma.
